Welcome to the Stewardship campaign for 2025!

Here you have Stewardship Chair Cory Johnson’s letter, followed by a link to the online pledge card.

Dear fellow St. Clement’s parishioners,

Every once in a while, I’m asked: “oh, you’re Episcopalian? What are Episcopalians like?”

And I’ll say: “We Episcopalians tend to have a lot of two things that we don’t want to talk about: money and God.”

With stewardship season upon us, I want to focus on the latter, as difficult as it may be for us Episcopalians.

I see God in this church, especially in our beautiful sanctuary. Every shingle, every hymnal, and every stained glass window represents the faithful generosity of those who came before us—people we never met but who deeply cared about the spiritual home we enjoy today.

Do you remember the first time you walked in here? You were able to do so thanks to the loving kindness and generosity of unknown from previous generations who left us this sacred space. We are now the temporary stewards holding it in trust for those who will worship here long after us.

Stewardship isn’t just about maintaining buildings; it’s about ensuring that future generations will have a vibrant spiritual community where they can celebrate, mourn, worship, and grow in faith. When we give, we participate in a chain of faithfulness stretching back to our church’s founding and forward into a future we cannot see but must help shape. True stewardship flows from gratitude—gratitude for those who built this place, gratitude for our present community, and gratitude for the opportunity to pay these blessings forward.

Every contribution, whether modest or magnificent, helps weave the fabric of our church’s future. No gift is too small when given in faith and thanksgiving. Like those who preceded us, we are called to look beyond our own time and do the work to tend the garden of faith that will nourish souls we will never meet.

As we just sang in Hymn 571, “All Who Love And Serve This City”: “In your day of wealth and plenty, wasted work and wasted play, call to mind the words of Jesus: ‘I must work while it is day.’”

Faithfully yours,

Cory Johnson, Stewardship Chair
